The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 250 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Fort St. John Co-op invites applications for the position of General Manager.
Incorporated on July 26, 1944 Fort St. John Co-op operates 2 cardlock locations in Fort St. John, 91st Avenue and 100th Avenue and had convenience stores at both locations with 5 bulk petroleum delivery units and 1 lube truck. Administration offices and board/training room are located at 91st Avenue. 91st Avenue cardlock will be completing a major upgrade Spring 2013. The retail is also budgeting additional cardlocks for Hudson's Hope and Prespatou for 2013 and future plans include a cardlock at Pink Mountain and bulk plant/cardlock at Fort Nelson.
The General Manger is responsible for the day to day operations of the co-operative and guides the employee group to ensure high standards of merchandising, customer service and cleanliness are adhered to at all the facilities that it operates. Another key duty of this position is the planning for the future growth and development of the co-operative to ensure the retail is working towards its long-term goals and objectives. The General Manager reports to a board of seven directors that meet an average of 10 times a year.
Department managers reporting to the General Manager include the Office/Credit Manager, Petroleum Manager and C-Store/Cardlock Manager. Accounting services are provided by FCL Retail Accounting and audit performed by FCL Audit department. The successful applicant must possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to multi-task, delegate and have effective follow-up with the department managers of the co-operative.
